Gli intellettuali di tutto il mondo: sostegnamo l'Euromaidan in Ucraìna!

In questi giorni, tutto il mondo si è stretto intorno all'Ucraina. Alcuni dei recenti sviluppi, soprattutto i ricorrenti tentativi del governo di usare la violenza contro i dimostranti pacifici, sollevano un problema davvero serio. Noi, rappresentanti della comunità accademica internazionale, siamo particolarmente turbati dal fatto che la violenza e le molestie in Ucraina troppo spesso vengono rivolte contro i giovani, i giornalisti, gli studenti universitari ed i giovani docenti. Tale comportamento da parte del governo ucraino è distruttivo, sia per il governo stesso sia per il futuro del paese che rappresenta. In contrasto con il governo, la società ucraina ha dimostrato a tutto il mondo la maturità civica ammirevole. La sua determinazione di mantenere la sua protesta nell'ambito della legalità e il suo rifiuto incondizionato della violenza sono un modello per la difesa dei diritti civili. Oggi, gli ucraini a Maidan in Ucraina, rappresentano tutta l'Europa al suo meglio - quello che molti pensatori del passato e del presente riassumono come valori fondamentali europei.

Per questo ci rivolgiamo a tutti e chiediamo ai nostri governi e le organizzazioni internazionali di sostenere il popolo ucraino nei suoi sforzi per porre fine a un regime corrotto e brutale e alla vulnerabilità geopolitica del loro paese. L'Ucraina ha bisogno di un piano Marshall europeo che garantisca la sua trasformazione in una democrazia piena e la società con i diritti civili garantiti. In elaborazione di una nuova politica nei confronti dell'Ucraina, si propone di tracciare una distinzione tra il governo ucraino e la società ucraina. Mentre la prima deve essere trattata con un massimo di stenosi, invece quest'ultima merita un massimo del sostegno.

Aiutiamo gli ucraini a costruire una nuova Ucraina che poi loro sicuramente ci aiuteranno a costruire una nuova Europa e un mondo più giusto.
